Democractic congressional candidates Marie Newman and Robert Emmons Jr., along with Berto Aguayo, will be participating in a town hall on gun violence prevention set for Saturday, June 22, from 2 to 4 p.m. The town hall will take place at Beverly Unitarian Church, 10244 S. Longwood Dr., Chicago.
Newman is running against incumbent Dan Lipinski for democratic nomination in Illinois' 3rd Congressional District; Emmons is challenging Bobby Rush in Illinois's 1st. The Illinois presidential primary will be held on March 17, 2020.
Several organizations will also be participating, including March for Our Lives, Fuerte, Southwest Suburban Activists and St. Sabina Catholic Church, all who have submitted questions in advance on how the candidates plan gun violence in Chicago and the nation. The second hour of the town hall will be devoted to questions from the audience.
